I thought that Periciles was very interesting and of how his mom was the niece of Cleisthenes, the Athenian noble who had introduced important democratic reforms. I also thought that the Delian League was interesting and how Periciles invented it.
I thought it was interesting that Pericles wanted to make Athens look nicer. He did this by having the greatest Greek artists and achitects create magnificent sculptures and buildings.
I thought that it was interesting how Socrates, the philosopher, believed that absolute standards did exist for truth and justice and that he encouraged Greeks to go farther and question themselves and their moral character. I thought that this was interesting because Socrates came up with his own opinion of things and tried to get people to believe the same and he inspired many people by what believed in.
Kelsey D. Ross 7th hour I think it is interesting that the presidency (in the council of 500) was rotated annually and wasn't granted to one person for a really long period of time like our presidency.
I thought it was interesting that the Spartans were winning the Peloponnesian war, and so the Athenians were forced to surrender and lost their empire, power, and wealth.
In the side column on page 135 interested me with facts about Perciles. It says that his family is wealthy, which may attract people to liking him. It said that he had no friends, because of work. His father was probably well known because he lead the Athenian assembly in the Battle of Salamis of The Persian Wars.
Ah! I was going to say about how Pericles had no friends...oh well here I go with something else:
I thought it was kinda weird and interesting that Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle were all linked in a way. Socrates, who was poisioned because he said Athens was brainwashing their citizens, taught Plato, whose main rivals were his teacher and who he taught, which was Aristotle. And then Aristotle went off and was teaching the bright Alexander! They're all connected and..I guess I never considered that before:)
I thought that the 2nd year of the Peloponnesian War was interesting. A plague that supposedly killed one third of the population. Pericles was one that died from the plague. Athens faught for years after then they got tired and signed a truce.
Then 6 years later they were back to war. After almost a decade, the athenians and their allies surrendered. Athens lost its empire, power and wealth. I guess it wasnt smart to go to war again after signing a truce.
I found it intreasting that The parthenon, a msterpiece of architectural design and craftsmanship, was not unique in style. Rather, Greek architects constucted the 23,000 square-foot building in the traditional style that had been used to create Greek temples for 200 years.
i thought it was interesting how all 3 of the greatest philosophers of ancient greece were connected as student and teacher. that shows how much knowledge can influence a society especailly if you choose to pass it on because you never know when it will stop affecting others, or if it ever will.
I thought it was interesting that Aristotle questioned the nature of the world and of human belief. This is weird because why would someone question nature of the world. I mean it is the way it is, and especially human belief.
I think it is interesting how only wealthier Athenian citizens could afford to hold public office, and how Athens had more citizens engaged in self-government than any other city-state in Greece. Athens is one of the most democratic governments in history because of this!
I thought it was interesting that if you were wealthy it was thought to be your civic duty to help with the cost of producing theatrical productions. Actors would use colorful costumes, masks, and sets to dramatize the stories. The plays were mostly about leadership, justice, and the duties owed to the gods. The production often included a chorus that danced, sang, and recited poetry. :)
I thought it was interesting how Pericles used some of the Delian Leagues money to buy gold, ivory, and marble to beutify Athens without the Leagues permission.
greek architects made a 23,000 square foot building.it was built to honor the goddess of wisdom and the protector of athens named athena.this temple set the standards for generations of artists all around the world.
phidias made a giant statue of athena that contained only precious materials such as gold and ivory, and stood over 30 feet tall
I thought it was interesting how Pericles used money from the Delian League to beautify Athens. He used the league's money to buy gold, ivory, and marble. Lots more money was used to pay the artists, architects, and workers who used theses materials.
I thought it was cool that this section talked about the ancient Greek philosophers. It was interesting that Athens survived the war with Sparta for so long.
What I thought was interesting was how Pericles used some of the Delian Leagues money to buy gold, ivory, and marble to beutify Athens without the Leagues permission.
Pericles was a important member of the Athenian society because he had much affect on the Peloponnesieus War. I thought it was really amazing he done for the Athenians to change to direct democracy.
Cody C. 1st hour i like how Pericles was a philospher whos morales were to make athens a better place, in knowledge, power, and justice, that is right by me any day. he was a man of a great mind, his greatest affect to me was, how he changed to the direct democracy.
I think its interesting that the Athens were Aristocracy then they changed to Direct democracy. Also the perciles were making the Athenians a better place!

Socrates was convicted for corrupting the youth of Athens and neglecting the city's gods. He was sentenced to death by drinking poison.
