I liked how the greeks handled early government. They used small communities to build up their culture. They may have not been so dominate if this was not in place. They used the mountainous region to their advantage also.

A blind storyteller named Homer told epics about life during the Trojan wars. Some of these epics (such as the Illiad) are now considered great novels and classics.

One intresting thing i found was that Mycenae, a warrior-king ruled the surrounding villages and farms. strong rulers controlled the areas around the Mycenaean cities, such as Tiryns and Athens.

I thought it was interesting that historians thought that the "legendary stories" of the Trojan War were fictional....but they weren't! Excavations and archaeological studies showed that the stories might have been based on real cities, people, and events.

Instead of a single government, the Greeks developed small, independent communities within each little valley and it's surrounding mountains.

I thought that it was interesting how the Greeks didn't live on land... but they lived around sea and rarely had to travel more than 85 miles to reach the coastline. Also, I thought that it was interesting how it talks about the epics of Homer because in language arts we have been talking about and reading one of the epics written by Homer... The Odyssey.

I found it pretty interesting how it took the Greeks many days to travel to a place 60 miles away; compared to an hour or so it takes now. I also found it pretty cool how Homer was mentioned in the reading, like some said before, we are learning about him in our LA classes.

What i thought was interesting was during the rule of the Dorians the Greeks appear to have temporarily lost the art of writing during the Dorian Age. No written record exists from the 400-year period between 1150 and 750 B.C.

I found it interesting that the Greek civilization formed around a sea rather than a river. To me this is something that made the Greek civilization stand out against many surrounding civilizations. Overall I think it is a bennifit to have the sea as a form of transportation to all parts of Greece. In comparison to the sea a river is limited in where a ship might be able to go.

I think it was pretty interesting that the greeks lived "around a sea" with small communities instead of a large unity of one government.

The stories of the Trojan War interest me. These stories seem fictional but historians are finding out that some are based on real cities and people. I like this type of reading

Greek Myths interest me SO much! Are we going to study them?
Anyway, according to traditions, a new group of people, the Dorians, moved into the war-ton courntryside.

I thought it was interesting that the people who settled on the Greek mainland around 2000 B.C. were later known as the Mycenaeans which came from their leading city, Mycenae.

the greatest storyteller was blind and his name was Homer. People thought he composed his epics. this is neat because he is blind and he told great stories. so he would of had to listen through his whole life and not see anything. yet feel like he saw it all or just came up with what it must have all looked like.

Homer who was thought to be the greatest storyteller of all time was a composer. He was the author of the Odyssey written in 700 B.C. The Odyssey is the second most viewed book besides the Bible. I think this is interesting because I learned alot about it in my LA9 class.
